Upgrading Assets - My very own Thinkpad Z61m Laptop!
A lot of people who knows me will always remember why I prefer to use a Lenovo / IBM Thinkpad Laptop. But for the past 3 years or so. I have been buying mere second hand units to do most of my in office and out of office work. And I start to dwelve deeper into the SEO industry from my previous System Administration industry I had to discuss with Maia that maybe its time to invest or upgrade one of my priced assets — My laptop…
My fondness for Thinkpad Laptops
I previously discussed my reasons for preferring an IBM / Lenovo Thinkpad laptop so it would only natural for me that my next laptop will be another Thinkpad Laptop for this reason I outlined my general requirements for such a unit:
- Widescreen Display - Widescreen display for me provide more screen real estate and allows me to see more. When you are starting to learn web design and seo, a big enough screen is quite essential as it will not force you to squint yours in long periods of time. I also wanted it to be ideally 14″ inches only so that it wont be too bulky.
- Core Duo Processor - Sure the Core 2 Duos processors are making waves right now but I personally believe that those machines are more appropriate for gaming systems. I am buying a laptop for business and work purposes. And I wanted a gaming device, I’d get a PSP!
- Atleast 1GB Memory - No its not because I want to run Microsoft Vista fast (btw, Vista will still run slow if you only have 1GB memory), but I wanted to do testing on various operating systems by using VMWare system virtualization technology.
- Around 80GB hard drive capacity - Just need a place to store all of my ISO images (and NO, I don’t download bootleg videos and music).
Finding the Thinkpad Laptop that is both fast and cost effective
So for the past 4 months I have been really watching over the prices of the various widescreen laptops that Lenovo is putting for sale. The most promsing were the R and T series since they provide the widescreen models I wanted however, prices of Thinkpad laptops are really really expensive when you compare it to other brands of the same specs. This was the main reason why I have to delay buying. Although, we had the money for it, I didnt really want to buy something on impulse so the timing has to be right. Making a long story short, I finally found a good deal in Megamall Cyberzone.
